Everyone wants to be a Hunter. Big and small. Only few have what it takes. [Hisoka looks back at Shirasu with a small grin.] They hunt beasts or treasures.
You take an exam to get a Hunter’s license. It lets you go where you please... and do with little consequence. So many try, but only a handful pass. They say it is one of the hardest things to accomplish, getting your Hunter’s License.
[listen. hisoka wouldn't talk it up this much if he failed at doing it, and doing what he wants with little consequence sounds exactly up hisoka's alley.]
It's different every year, so you can't prepare. The location also changes, and you aren't able to find it on your own. The first phase of the exam is finding the true start.
[His eyes close thoughtfully; he's still resting on Shirasu like it's nothing. His fingers lace and rest on his stomach.]
Not only do you have to pass the stages, you are scored at the end. On your strength, agility, and endurance. Your judgement and creativity, your focus. And the opinions of the Exam Commission.
[The tug gets a small grunt. He gives Shirasu a look, and then turns his head in the opposite direction again, as if he's pretending to pout. But he's fine, naturally.]
You're free to try then, if that happens to be the case.
[For a bit, he's quiet. It doesn't seem like he's trying to continue to pretend pouting so much as he's just... thoughtful. Slowly, his head rolls back; he isn't facing Shirasu, but looking forward.]
Not necessarily. Applicants can do what they need to do in order to survive or pass save for killing proctors. So many are maimed or die taking the Hunter Exam. [He smiles faintly, mostly to himself.] There is a man who has purposefully failed thirty-five times. His only goal is to get rid of rookies who fall for his tricks.
[Shirasu is no fun. He's just trying to push the other man's buttons, but never gets many good reactions... Alas. He'll find the Illumi berserk button one way or another. Maybe in regards to Sol, someone Hisoka has not forgotten Shirasu likes.]

[where hisoka is sarcastic, he's just deadpan. clothes stay on, thanks, he fully expects that to be a form of innuendo with hisoka and he's stopping it here.]
